ZIONSVILLE, INDIANA — SullivanMunce Cultural Center is pleased to present the Indiana Artists Abstract Juried Exhibition, on view September 12 through October 31, 2026, with an Opening Reception on Friday, September 11.

The exhibition celebrates the diverse and expressive language of abstract art through the work of artists from across Indiana. Open to Indiana artists age 18 and older, the juried exhibition invited artists to explore abstraction through color, form, texture, movement, gesture, pattern, and conceptual expression. Both non-objective work and representational work demonstrating strong abstract qualities were considered.

The exhibition received 79 entries, with 40 works by 19 artists selected for inclusion. The resulting exhibition brings together a wide range of approaches to abstraction and demonstrates the many ways artists use color, shape, line, texture, movement, and composition to communicate ideas, emotions, and experiences beyond direct representation.

“Abstract art gives both the artist and the viewer room for discovery,” said Cynthia Young, Executive Director of SullivanMunce Cultural Center. “We were excited by the response to this exhibition and by the variety of work submitted. The selected pieces demonstrate just how broad abstract art can be—from bold explorations of color and movement to subtle investigations of texture, shape, and composition.”

Participating artists are: Betsy Bird, Indianapolis; Ronald Bowles, Bloomington; Caitlin Downey, Indianapolis; Jan Good, Indianapolis; Alla Haidash, Elwood; Stephanie Lewis Robertson, Indianapolis; Martha Sando, Indianapolis; Carol Sewell, Indianapolis; Benny Kenworthy, Noblesville; Todd A. Matteson, Newburgh; James Mendenhall, Indianapolis; Ginger Relly, Bloomington; Gregory Steel, Kokomo; Brenda Stichter, Warsaw; Wes Thorn, Portage; Barbara Triscari, Lebanon; Kelly Ulman, Decatur; Melanie Millis Wissel, Carmel; and André Zhang Sonera, Indianapolis.
